Unlocking and Unblocking Your Unconscious
Plus a 1-Day Retreat at Surya Spa on SAT AUG 24th
It was 2014 and, as I walked out of my first Alexander Technique appointment, I felt a profound peace in my body and mind.
I’m talking no physical pain or tightness, no difficult emotions, no racing thoughts. It was the moment I’d spent 20 years searching for.
But as soon as I stepped on to the street, my body started to contract, my mind began scanning for threats, and my breath, which had been easy and steady after the appointment, started to catch.
Over the next few days, I watched nearly all of my new-found ease evaporate. Despite doing everything I could, the pain, tightness, anxiety and racing thoughts came back.
I was deeply disappointed, but it led to a realization:
All the benefits of my Alexander Technique session had quickly disappeared because of engrained, unconscious patterns. And they would continue to limit my ability to heal, unless I learned to identify and work with them.
It was around this time that I also came across somatic meditation. Through these meditations, I discovered places in my body where I was gripping constantly. I began to see how certain thoughts and actions created stress in my body and mind—therefore perpetuating my own suffering.
Slowly but surely, layer by layer, I was making my unconscious patterns conscious.
Once I was aware of these patterns, I was able to change them. Using somatic meditation, I learned how to relate to my mind and body in a compassionate, systematic way, which allowed my body to start releasing the tension I’d been carrying.
And as the physical tension released, the mental and emotional stress released with it.
Over time, I was able to use this process to heal innumerable emotional traumas, fibromyalgia, chronic injuries, environmental allergies, dysfunction in romantic relationships, fear of intimacy, and much more.
Now, after a decade of personal practice and 5 years of working with clients and students, I have seen—over and over again—that in order to create deep, lasting changes in how we feel, think, or act, we need to change what’s in our unconscious.
Some of this work needs to happen with the guidance of experts like therapists, healers, coaches etc., but the deepest transformation has to come from within us as individuals—from our own personal practice of discovering and reprogramming the very foundation of our past, present and future.
If you are currently struggling with your physical or emotional health, relationships, career, creativity, or your capacity to feel peace and joy…it’s likely that the solution will involve working with, and ultimately rewriting the contents of your unconscious.
And in support of this intention, I’m thrilled to announce that Depth Ecotherapist Pam Soffer and I are offering a 1-day retreat where we will be teaching simple, but powerful techniques for accessing and working with the unconscious…
The Emerging Self: Somatic Explorations of the Unconscious to Uncover the Most Authentic, Empowered You
Our unconscious influences our thoughts, feelings, decisions and behaviors.
It’s what forms our beliefs about who we are, what we deserve, and what we’re capable of. When we can learn to work with the unconscious, we can heal the wounds and release the conditioning that’s been holding us back.
In the process, we can uncover the deep intuitive wisdom of who we truly are.
Join me and Depth Ecotherapist Pam Soffer at Surya Spa on Saturday, August 24th for a 1-day retreat where you’ll learn how to work with the unconscious to remove the barriers preventing you from embodying your most authentic and empowered self.
With somatic meditation, you’ll learn the language of sensation so you can quiet your mind, calm your nervous system, engage your unconscious and then update its contents.
With deep imaginative practices, you’ll deepen these changes, imprinting them in your body and mind through the language of images, symbols and spontaneous insight.
